Latest Kaizer Chiefs news, in the last 24 hours, including former striker Kenny Niemach setting the bar for Fernando Da Cruz, Flavio Silva’s financial upgrade and Dillan Solomons’ contract situation settled.

Da Cruz receives Club World Cup demand

Pressure is already building on newly appointed Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz, even though he has yet to begin working at the club.

Da Cruz signed a two-year contract with the Glamour Boys, with an additional one-year option. His tenure officially starts in July.

Former Chiefs striker Kenny Niemach says Da Cruz’s mandate this upcoming season should be to secure a spot in the CAF Champions League and nothing less.

“Remember they fired the other coaches because their mandate was a spot in the Champions League, so I assume the mandate would be the same with Fernando Da Cruz,” Niemach told KickOff.

“It’s high time that Chiefs compete regularly on the African continent; he needs to get Kaizer Chiefs to the FIFA Club World Cup.”

Guinea-Bissau international Flavio Silva will reap the rewards of reaching double figures in his first season by moving a step up on his package at Kaizer Chiefs.

After all the doubts that accompanied his signing at the beginning of last season, Silva was able to silence his critics by scoring 10 goals in all competitions.

Though Silva was already on the best contract he has had compared to what he earned throughout his time in Portugal, he will get a further rise with effect from 1 July as per KickOff. There will be an increase in his salary and the performance-related full payment of his signing-on fees.

The performance clauses will also dictate that he needs to keep scoring in the second season for the benefit of the team. Should the club lift silverware, it will add to his perks, which already include accommodation plus flight tickets back home.

Solomons transfer decision made

Kaizer Chiefs have handed right-back Dillan Solomons a new one-year contract extension, keeping him at Naturena until June 2027, according to SABC.

The deal comes as Amakhosi continue reshaping their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season, with new head coach Fernando Da Cruz expected to arrive next week to begin pre-season.

Solomons joined Chiefs from Moroka Swallows in 2022 and has endured a mixed spell at the club. Although he arrived with high expectations, the 29-year-old has battled injuries and stiff competition for a regular starting place.

Despite those setbacks, he featured in 19 matches across all competitions last season under Nasreddine Nabi before Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef took over on an interim basis following the Tunisian’s departure.

The new contract represents a vote of confidence from Chiefs, while also giving Solomons the opportunity to prove his long-term value under Da Cruz.
