Latest Kaizer Chiefs news in the last 24 hours, including Amakhosi losing a striker to their former coach, ex-club striker Pollen Ndlanya explaining ‘arrogant’ Fernando Da Cruz, and more.
Amakhosi set to lose experienced striker to CAF CC team
Durban City have agreed to sign Tashreeq Morris as Khalil Ben Youssef will be reunited with the striker after their stints at Kaizer Chiefs.
The 32-year-old looked poised to join Stellenbosch in January, and while interest remained over the former Ajax Cape Town, Supersport United and Sekhukhune United attacker, City have now agreed to a deal.
“The Nedbank Cup champions have secured the services Morris as a free agent, who was not guaranteed game time at the club due to the presence of Flavio da Silva, Etiosa Ighodaro, Wandile Duba, Ashley du Preez, Luke Baartman – while also had Khanyisa Mayo on loan last season,” iDiski Times reported.

“Naledi Hlongwane – who is also held in high regard by the club adds further competition and the move to City will now offer a platform under Ben Youssef to revive his career, with the coach an admirer of his talents, having broken back into the Chiefs squad towards the latter end of the season.
“Morris scored his only goal for the club towards the end of the campaign in a 2-0 win over his former club Sekhukhune, as Amakhosi secured a third place finish in the league,” they concluded.
Have Amakhosi appointd ‘arrogant’ Da Cruz as their coach?
Following the appointment of Fernando Da Cruz as head coach of Kaizer Chiefs, former striker Pollen Ndlanya has offered an insight into the mind-set of French coaches, having played under two at the club.
Da Cruz has signed a two-year deal with Amakhosi with an option to renew for a further year. He replaces the duo of Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, who led Chiefs to a third-place finish in the league last season, the side’s best finish since 2020.
“Look, French coaches can be arrogant and sometimes because of that we tend to think they are racist,” Ndlanya told iDiski Times.
“But no, they are just driven; they always want you to give 120%. You have to put in the effort as a player. Troussier was a very disciplined coach who wanted to win at all costs, and he always encouraged us that you must give 120% at training.
“You could never hide yourself from Philippe Troussier. So, if this new coach is anything like the other French coaches, the players must be prepared to work hard and know that he will be big on discipline.

“After training and after the game, you’d be surprised and think, is this the same man who was swearing at me because he will treat you like a good friend,” added the 56-year-old.
“So, my advice to the players would be to not take it personally but understand that the man just wants to excel and he will push you to it, even if it means him using some unprintable words,” he concluded.
