Kaizer Chiefs provide injury update ahead of Sekhukhune clash

Kaizer Chiefs defender Rushwin Dortley has a chance of being involved in the club’s PSL match against Sekhukhune United on Sunday while three other players are sidelined.

Chiefs assistant coach Ben Khalil has revealed that Dortley has a 50-50 chance of making the matchday squad but attackers Ashley Du Preez and Gaston Sirino as well as midfielder Edson Castillo are still far from returning.

Du Preez joined the Chiefs’ treatment room following a fracture in the match against his former team Stellenbosch FC this month and will be out for an extended period, leaving the Glamour Boys short in attack once more.

“Ashley Du Preez will also be out [vs Sekhukhune], he fractured his hand,” Khalil said on Thursday.

“For Dortley, it’s still 50/50, because when went to Bafana Bafana he picked up an injury. We try to manage him every week, sometimes he makes two recovery sessions because we try… he’s an international player, we have to protect.

“I’d say he’s 50/50 for this game, maybe he will be with us, maybe on the bench or maybe out of the squad. We are waiting for a medical decision.”

Khalil is frustrated by the growing injury list which he says has disrupted the technical team’s plans as they are not able to field a settled starting XI.

“We try to play the same team but get injury. It was Dove, after Castillo, after Sirino, after Mshini, Bradley Cross and now Ashley,” he added

“Every game we lose players and have to change the squad, for that it’s not easy for us to get it right with this problem we get.”

Chiefs face a tricky test against Sekhukhune on Sunday as Babi Noko are third on the log with 23 points, five ahead of Chiefs, and are unbeaten in their last five matches with four wins recorded over that period.
