Kaizer Chiefs release experienced defender as squad shakeup continues

Kaizer Chiefs continue to make their squad shakeup with more departures as they create room for new arrivals.

Chiefs have already released Sabele Radebe and Ranga Chivaviro and the latest out the exit door is defender Edmilson Dove.

The Glamour Boys have confirmed that the Mozambique defender will not be handed fresh terms when his contract expires this month, parting ways with one of the club’s experienced players.

“Kaizer Chiefs and defender Edmilson Dove will part ways when his contract expires at the end of June. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Edmilson for his contributions to the club and wish him all the best in his future endeavours,” the club said through a statement.

How has Dove fared in the black and gold of Chiefs?

Dove joined Chiefs in August 2022 from Cape Town City and has made 56 appearances in all competitions for the Soweto giants, scoring two goals.

He made 13 appearances in the just-ended season, having been out injured during the first half of the campaign, but despite his versatility, Chiefs did not see the need to keep him.

Dove can play both at centre-back and left-back but the reported signing of Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane as free agents following their departure from Orlando Pirates has forced Chiefs to let him go.

Coach Nasresddine Nabi is looking forward for more signings as he bids to have a strong squad capable of competing in the league and in the CAF Confederation Cup next season and more departures are expected this month.
