Kaizer Chiefs transfer blow? Key goalkeeping target wanted by Moroccan giants

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs could miss out on one of their goalkeeping targets after it emerged that Nigerian Stanley Nwabali is wanted by Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca.

Nwabali has been on the radar of Chiefs since last year but Amakhosi did not make their interest formal and his club Chippa United reacted by handing him a new contract and making him captain.

However, Chiefs are believed to still be in the market for a new goalkeeper after all their three options failed to cover themselves in glory last season.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi started the season with new signing Fiacre Ntwari between the sticks but by November it was Brandon Petersen in goal and he also fell out of favour after which Bruce Bvuma was handed the gloves for the rest of the season.

Chiefs have been looking at various goalkeepers with Nwabali reportedly among the targets as well as Malian Djigui Diarra, who Nabi worked with at Tanzanian giants Yanga, also on their radar.

However, as per the latest reports, Nwabali is on the shortlist of Raja who have made him their number one target with a bid set to be sent to Chippa after which personal terms will follow.

Nwabali has attracted interest since AFCON 2023

Nwabali has been at Chippa since 2022 and grown into a great player before he enhanced his reputation with impressive performances for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast as the Super Eagles reached the final before losing to the hosts.

Since those heroics, he has become a key target for teams around the continent with Orlando Pirates also credited with an interest last year.

Nwabali started well last season but his form dropped towards the end of the campaign and was even dropped from some matches as the Chilli Boys limped to an 11th place finish in the PSL.
