Former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Keagan Dolly has revealed the frustrating reality of being overlooked by clubs solely due to his age.
The 31-year-old, recently departed from TS Galaxy, finds himself battling perceptions after turning 30, despite his experience and skill.
Dolly's current stint training with Siwelele FC, and his involvement with the Bafana Bafana CHAN squad – notably featuring many free agents – highlights the challenges faced by seasoned players in the current market.
He argues that players over 30 bring invaluable experience and should be given the opportunity to prove their worth, rather than being dismissed based on their birthdate.
“It does disappoint, but I mean it doesn’t start with me, there’s been a lot of players in the past as well that left teams because they’re just over 30,” said Dolly.

“Some have struggled to find teams and forced to retire because it’s not difficult when you’re at that age.
“Hopefully they see that we can still offer a lot for a lot of good clubs and for South African football, not only playing but being part of the club and share your experience with upcoming players.
“It makes a lot of difference as well. But yeah it’s disappointing to see how a lot of players struggle after turning 30 and above.”
WHY DOLLY LEFT GALAXY
Meanwhile, explaining why he left Galaxy, he said, “A few decisions had to be made in terms of senior players and salaries and all of that.”
“But for me personally, I just don’t think it was worth it anymore to stay at the club and not get what you deserve. So, I felt it was time for me to move on and try to look for something better.”
