Tashreeq Matthews has been one of the star players at Mamelodi Sundowns after joining them from Swedish outfit IK Sirius in January 2024.
The South African has played 32 games across all competitions, scoring eight goals and seven assists. Masandawana's R30 million payment for the attacker already looks like a bargain, owing to what the 24-year-old is bringing to the table.
After winning the Premier Soccer League title, for the eighth time in a row, the Brazilians are chasing their second Caf Champions League crown. They will play Pyramids in a two-legged final; the first one will be played in Mzansi on Saturday, May 24, with the second one set for Egypt on June 1.
The final is a different game
The versatile attacker has opened up about his physique and the crucial game against the Egyptian outfit.
“It's not just me, there are a lot of footballers who have my structure. It depends on how you use your body, of course sometimes it comes to a disadvantage sometimes but I mean if you are in the possession of the ball, you have an advantage at the end of the day because if you just know how to use your body, you have all the advantage because you are in possession of the ball as well,” he told the media.
“The finals, it's a different game, it can go [either way] at the end of the day. If it's your turn to win, you will win, but at the end of the day, it also depends on what happens on the day, and I think, as Sundowns, you are to win every game, every final.
“It doesn't matter if it's a friendly as well, you want to win every time, and sometimes, it doesn't go your way,” he concluded.
