Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has weighed in on the injury of midfielder Themba Zwane who was taken off during their 3-0 win over Magesi FC on Sunday.
Zwane, who has battled injuries in recent months, came on as a 63rd minute substitute for Kutlwano Letlhaku but did not complete the match as he was taken off late in the contest after going down in pain.
The 36-year-old went down in the 82nd minute, before limping off the pitch in pain, and Cardoso was asked if he knew the extent of Mshishi’s setback.
“Well, let’s see what is happening. As I understand from the doctor it’s not the same thing that he had before,” Cardoso told SuperSport TV. “Let’s hope it’s nothing serious. Let’s hope so.”
Zwane has battled injuries since October 2024
Zwane was just coming back having missed Bafana Bafana’s games against Lesotho and Nigeria last week as he was not selected by coach Hugo Broos due to another injury.

The Sundowns playmaker has been in and out of the team since last October when he suffered an Achilles injury that needed surgery during Bafana Bafana’s match with Congo in Brazzaville.
Zwane was out until April and returned just in time for the CAF Champions League final although he did not play in the two-legged fixture but was a key player for Sundowns at the FIFA Club World Cup.
However, the midfielder appears not to have shaken off the effects of his devastating injury and his coach and fans will be hoping that his latest injury is not badly off.
