Motaung cautions Kaizer Chiefs stars ahead of crucial Zamalek clash

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr has issued a rallying call to the players to ensure they complete the job in Egypt this weekend.

Chiefs boosted their chances of making it to the quarter-final of the CAF Confederation Cup when they beat Al Masry 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

The victory pushed them to the summing of their group with 10 points, two more than Zamalek, and three ahead of Al Masry and now need a draw in their final match to seal a place in the last eight.

Chiefs will play away to Zamalek in Ismailia on Sunday and it is a tricky match as the Egyptian giants must win to be sure of their place unless Al Masry do not beat ZESCO United on the same day.

Motaung thrilled with collective effort

Motaung Jr knows the job is not done and has cautioned against early celebrations for his team.

“Well, I think it’s a lot of work to do, because, you know, the permutations can go different kinds of ways next week,” Motaung Jr told SABC TV.

“So I think it’s very much a big job for us to do when we get to Egypt. I think the planning behind the strategy for that position, I think credit must go to the players. They fight, they give everything on the field, technical staff and the players, they’re giving everything they can.

“Also to the chairman and the board for the support in terms of logistics and how they’re supporting us with our travels. So I think it’s a collective effort. Big job next week. I think we’ll talk once we know. We’re certainly through next week, but now there’s still one more big game to play next week.”

What is Chiefs boss calling for?

The Chiefs boss paid glowing tribute to the players for showing great character, saying it is their attitude more than their quality that won them the game.

“Well, I think it’s the character shown. It wasn’t the prettiest of games to watch from us, but I think we knew we had to get the victory,” he added.

“We’d have loved to get it by two goals to qualify automatically. But determination, courage was there. They fought hard. And at the end of the day, we got our three points, put ourselves in a position to make sure it’s in our hands next week. And that’s what you can ask for.”
