Star ready for life in ‘great environment with good management’ after leaving Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs confirmed the exits of attacker Ashley du Preez and centre-back Given Msimango on Tuesday afternoon.

The duo joined Stellenbosch who are coached by former Amakhosi tactician Gavin Hunt.

“Msimango, who joined Chiefs from TS Galaxy ahead of the 2023/24 season, made a strong impact during his time at Naturena. The 29-year-old international featured in 53 official matches across all competitions, bringing leadership and consistency to Amakhosi’s backline,” the Glamour Boys said on their website.

“Du Preez, also 29, returns home to Stellenbosch having spent four seasons with Chiefs after being signed from the Winelands Club in July 2022, and going on to register 19 goals and 6 assists in 96 appearances for the Glamour Boys. His performances in the league earned him a few caps for the South African national team, Bafana Bafana.

“Both players have made significant contributions to Kaizer Chiefs during their time with the Club. Notably, they were part of the team that lifted the Nedbank Cup towards the end of the 2024/25 season,” they added.

Msimango ready for a new challenge

“It feels great to be part of Stellenbosch FC. This is a great environment with good management, fantastic coaching staff, and a team that wants to compete, which are all ingredients you need for success,” Msimango stated.

“Stellenbosch is an ambitious team that wants to compete and win things. The team recently competed in the CAF Confederation Cup, and I want to compete with the Club at the highest level and try to reach those heights again.

“I want to stay consistent with my performances and try to help the team as much as I can. I’m here to work hard for the Club, and I’ve already received messages of support from our fans, so I hope to be able to make them happy this season,” he concluded.
