Nabi discloses why Chiefs will keep more clean sheets this season

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi is confident that their impressive defensive record will continue this season after starting the campaign in fine fashion.

Chiefs have kept four straight clean sheets so far this campaign, something they had struggled with last season, and it has contributed to their top of the table placing in the PSL.

Amakhosi have been tough to break down, even when not particularly well, with champions Mamelodi Sundowns feeling how well they have improved when they forced a goalless draw on Wednesday.

What is giving Chiefs coach confidence?

Nabi says the defensive improvements is a collective effort that the entire team has worked hard on and is now delighted that it is bearing fruit.

“The players that we have brought, firstly in the season, we have worked a lot on our defensive structure, not only the defenders but the whole team to defend together, to play together and as well,” Nabi as quoted by iDiski Times.

Nabi then went into details over how his defence has been elevated by the signing of former Orlando Pirates men Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane, giving them the right balance at full-back, which was one of their problematic areas last term.

“When you speak about Monyane and Mako… Mako is a left-back, and remember last season, we didn’t have a specialist, [Bradley] Cross, TT [Thatayaone Ditlhokwe] and [Edmilson] Dove were centre-backs, now we can say we have a specialised in that position. Not forgetting about Reeve [Frosler], who is a very good player and will get the chance to play,” added the veteran coach.

Chiefs started the season with a 2-0 win over Stellenbosch FC before back-to-back 1-0 wins against Polokwane City and Richards Bay.

The Glamour Boys’ overall display has also improved giving fans hope that this would be a successful season as they look to challenge in the PSL and CAF Confederations Cup.
