Nabi’s anger turned to media: ‘Not good to provoke fans’ reaction & business for yourself!’

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi is unhappy with what he feels is a media-driven agenda regarding the success of the team.

The Tunisian was brought on board to help the Soweto giants turn a corner after struggling to win silverware for nine seasons. In his debut season, Chiefs have won four out of the 10 Premier Soccer League games played, three draws, and as many losses.

On Sunday, the Glamour Boys ended the year on a high after defeating Chippa United by a solitary goal. Nabi has since expressed his frustration after what he feels is pressure from the fourth estate.

“Honestly, do you think I make changes to the result? Why don’t you accept that I come for a project? Why do you, the media, refuse? I give you that question, because it’s not good for you as the media [not to acknowledge the process], you need the reaction of the people,” he told the media.

“If the coach talks about the process of building the team, this is not [about making money]. Don’t provoke reaction from the fans and business for yourself. This is not good.

“You push me only for the game, ‘Why, did you not win this one?’ I have come only for the process, guys.”

Not correct to say Chiefs will win all games

Nabi has further insisted it is out of order to think the Glamour Boys will win all the matches, “I trust in my project with Kaizer Chiefs. I know you don’t like to listen to this. Before I came here you listened to my [saying], ‘building, building’, [but] you don’t like to hear this.

“I have come to build, [whether] you want it or not, and if I give a different response to this I am not the correct coach.

“It’s not possible that I come in June to [the start of the league season in] September saying this is a transition season, we need steps, all the steps have a scientific objective and evaluation, and after that, I come and say now I want to win all the games. It’s not correct like that.”

The first game for Chiefs in 2025 will be against Cape Town City at the DHL Cape Town Stadium on January 5th.
