Njabulo Blom: Trouble for ex-Kaizer Chiefs midfielder in Vietnam

Published on by

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom has been deregistered by Vietnamese club Nam Dinh.

Blom, who joined the club ahead of this season from MLS side St Louis City FC, had hoped to begin a new chapter in his career but linked up with them while nursing an injury.

He would undergo surgery abroad but he has not returned yet with his comeback still uncertain and the club got tired of waiting, opting to remove him from their roster of players.

Nam Dinh have instead registered Congolese Arnaud Lusamba in the slot vacated by Blom after the player arrived in October but could not play as the club had filled its foreign quota.

Blom had not made a single appearance

Blom will leave the club without making an appearance, an unfortunate situation for the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, whose stock has fallen badly in the last two years.

The midfielder spent the whole of last season on loan at Chiefs and the Glamour Boys had an option to sign him permanently but after struggling for fitness and form, they opted against it.

That left Blom in no man’s land as St Louis had already taken him out of their plans and he had to look for a new club either in South Africa or abroad.

What does the future hold for ex-Chiefs star?

Nam Dinh were the club who took a chance on him but their patience has been tested by the 26-year-old’s fitness issues and they acted swiftly during the January transfer window.

The defensive midfielder, who came through the ranks at Chiefs, made 113 appearances for the Glamour Boys before sealing a dream transfer to the MLS in December 2022 ahead of the 2023 season and had an impressive debut campaign under South African coach Bradley Carnell.

However, when Carnell left, he fell down the pecking order and also had disciplinary issues that led to a suspension before he was loaned to Chiefs, having made 47 appearances for St Louis City FC.
