Ouaddou on why he played DDC star Selepe
Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has revealed why he opted to start youngster Simphiwe Selepe in their goalless draw against Durban City on Saturday in a game when his team needed to win to claim a first league title in 14 years.
Ouaddou left experienced Makhehlene Makhaula on the bench and went for the Diski Challenge star and he has shared the tactical reasons that went into his thinking.
“Today [Saturday] was the right moment to bring him because he has shown us great things in training, and it was a profile that we needed to find him between the lines. He did well; he was able to play forward passes and have combinations between the lines,” Ouaddou said as per FARPost.
“He was very aggressive without the ball, and in the air as well. I think it’s very good for Pirates to have such young players. To explain to you why we bring them late [in the season], there’s competition, a strong group in the midfield.”
Modiba praying for another Orlando Pirates draw
Mamelodi Sundowns defender Aubrey Modiba hopes that Orlando Pirates can fail to win again in their final match so that his team, who enjoy a two-point advantage over the Buccaneers, can retain their title.
“We still believe, anything can happen but we also know the quality team of Orlando Pirates and how bad they want the league and hopefully in their last game, we can have same result [draw]. We just hope and pray. We always believe,” he told the media on Sunday.

Orlando Pirates legend Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi insists his ex-club will still claim a first PSL title in 14 years even after their goalless draw against Durban City.
Pirates needed a win to be crowned last Saturday but missed the opportunity. However, Vilakazi is confident that they will beat Orbit College in the season finale and end the title drought.
“I’m still standing that Pirates will win the league. I said it when the season starts,” he told iDiski Times.
“Even when Pirates were facing difficulties, [Mamelodi] Sundowns coming back to sitting on top until against TS Galaxy where they lost to give us an opportunity.
“That is why I love the man above [God]. He shows you that I can give you this, but you need to do the right things. Just look at the opportunities Pirates are getting to win the league.”
