Orlando Pirates to cut ties with experienced midfielder

Published on by

Orlando Pirates have reportedly decided to part ways with midfielder Miguel Timm at the end of this season.

Timm has been a bit-part player at Pirates this season, managing just two appearances, having fallen down the pecking order with Thalente Mbatha and Makhehleni Makhaula ahead of him, under outgoing coach Jose Riveiro.

That has made his future at Pirates problematic with the club now deciding to cut ties with him as they do not feel he has a long-term future as a Buccaneer.

Pirates have a one-year option on Timm’s contract but according to SABC, they are not interested in exercising it for a player who is not in the plans of the technical bench and will now offload him to create space for new recruits.

Timm was in a similar position last season but he earned a stay of execution after featuring in 30 games and there was hope that he would play a major part this term but he has found game time difficult with those ahead of him also consistently available.

With Mamelodi Sundowns winning the PSL for an eighth straight year on Wednesday, Pirates’ four remaining games are now a formality, but Timm will hope to get some minutes in the legs under coach Mandla Ncikazi and Rayaan Jacobs, the head performance analyst, who have been handed temporary charge following Riveiro’s departure.

Overall, the 33-year-old has managed 60 games at Pirates and will hope that his experience will attract other teams to sign him next season.

Pirates have reportedly started their transfer activity with reports on Wednesday saying they have sealed a deal for Richards Bay defender Nkosikhona Ndaba who is due to join anytime.
