Ouaddou advised best position for Pirates starboy Mofokeng – ‘He got intimidated by Mudau’

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has been advised how best to utilise Relebohile Mofokeng.

Mofokeng has been played either as a winger or No.10 at Pirates with different results and there are matches where he excels in both roles while he struggles in others.

One of the games when he struggled was against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday when he started on the left wing before he was moved to the No.10 role.

What is the best position for Mofokeng?

However, former Pirates and Sundowns forward Kathlego ‘Mahoota’ Mashego feels Ouaddou should play the 21-year-old as a No.10 but not alone if he wants to maximise his qualities.

“I think at No.10 but he needs a little bit of help,” Mashego told Andile Ncube on Sports Nights Amplified. “I would like to see him playing maybe differently in a No.10 role that has two No.10s.”

“As a No.10 alone, it is a bit too much because he will be playing against a defensive midfielder that is specifically there to mark him. We saw that yesterday [Wednesday] because he got a little bit intimidated by [Khuliso] Mudau,” he added about some of Mofokeng’s limitations when playing behind the striker.

Rele has had mixed results in various positions

“Mudau is a bit rough around the edges and he doesn’t like players coming at him or dribbling him. When Rele had a chance and he had a one-on-one chance with Mudau, he turned back.”

Mofokeng has displayed his qualities whenever he is deployed in the No.10 role with some incisive passing while his movement in and around the box has been great although he was nullified against Sundowns.

When played on the wing, he shows great pace and is always ready to take on his opponents. It remains to be seen how Ouddou will deploy him going forward.
