Pirates legend demands Safa accountability after ‘unacceptable’ decision in Chiefs loss

Orlando Pirates legend Jabu Mahlangu is the latest to raise his concerns after controversial officiating in the match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs that was played on Saturday at the FNB Stadium.

The Premier Soccer League champions won the game 2-1, but there were questions raised regarding the second goal after Lucas Ribeiro was seemingly caught in an offside position before setting up Iqraam Rayners.

Inacio Miguel's late goal was then disallowed after what the officials felt was a foul on Khuliso Mudau just before the Angola international hit the back of the net.

Decisions by referees were unacceptable – Mahlangu

The Amakhosi fans were unhappy with the outcome after a brave fight from the Glamour Boys in front of their supporters.

The former Buccaneers player insists it is unfair for teams to prepare for matches throughout the week only for officials to determine the outcome. He has, however, insisted both Masandawana and the Glamour Boys played well.

“It’s hard to prepare your team all week, only for the referees to decide the outcome of the game,” Mahlangu said on his YouTube channel.

“Both teams [Sundowns and Chiefs] played well, but the refereeing decisions were unacceptable.”

Safa, where is the money for VAR?

Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie went on to ask the football managers in the country to act quickly and bring the Video Assistant Referee. Initially, Safa has in the past claimed the technology is expensive, but Mahalngu is not buying the narrative.

“To the Minister of Sports Gayton McKenzie, big up, it's about time that we challenge Safa. They said the VAR is too expensive, and they can't afford it, but we should ask, where is the Safa money?

“Why are we not asking Danny Jordaan where the [2010] World Cup profit is? Where is that money? I support Gayton McKenzie on this one, please minister, sort that Safa house. It's about time. Danny Jordaan needs to go. We respect what he has done for football.

“We are the best league in Africa and the top 10 in the world but they say there is no money, where is the money? Where is the Safa money going?”

The PSL takes a break this weekend to pave the way for the MTN8 final between defending champions Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch.
