The Brazilians will travel to eSwatini in the second preliminary round

Mamelodi Sundown will take on Mbabane Swallows from eSwatini in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League next month.

Sundowns were given a bye into the second round and were to take on the winners between Swallows and Mozambican club Ferroviario da Beira and it is the eSwatini side that emerged victorious following a 1-0 win on aggregate.

It appears to be an easy fixture on paper for Sundowns who are looking to improve on their semi-final appearance of the last two seasons.

Failure to win a Champions League trophy was one of the reasons cited for former coach Rulani Mokwena’s departure and Manqoba Mngqithi, elevated into his position, is the man tasked with righting those wrongs this season.

Where will Sundowns finish in the Champions League?

A big win against the Swallows will be a good confidence booster for the Brazilians who have made a number of top signings geared towards achieving that.

Winger Kobamelo Kodisang was signed from Moreirense, Brazilian forward Arthur de Oliveira Sales coming in from Belgian side Lommel SK, Kegan Johannes from SuperSport United, Asekho Tiwani signed from Sekhukhune United while striker Iqraam Rayners is the latest to join after Sundowns triggered his release clause from Stellenbosch FC.

The first leg will be played between September 13 and 15 in Mbabane before the Brazilians host the second leg at the Loftus Versfeld between September 20 and 22 for a chance to advance to the group stage.
