Pule on on-field relationship with Lorch at Pirates

Vincent Pule, now a SuperSport United winger, has revealed the reasons behind his strong on-field connection with Thembinkosi Lorch during their time at Orlando Pirates.

Both players left the Buccaneers last season, Lorch made a surprise move to Mamelodi Sundowns during the January transfer window while Pule joined SuperSport United at the end of the previous season.

Before injuries hampered their performances over the past three seasons, Pule and Lorch had a formidable partnership at Pirates, especially under coaches Milutin Sredojević and Rulani Mokwena.

Lorch’s standout performances in the 2018/19 season earned him both the PSL Footballer and Player’s Player of the Season awards, while Pule received the Absa-lutely Awesome Goal award for his stunning strike against Polokwane City.

Pule credits their strong bond to their shared history in lower league football. They played at the same venue, with Lorch representing Maluti FET (third tier) and Pule playing for African Warriors (second tier).

Their connection was further strengthened by mutual friends from their home province, Free State, which translated into their impressive on-field chemistry.

‘I KNOW HIM AND HE KNOWS ME TOO’

“I think it comes a long way…the time that I was playing for African Warriors, Lorch was at Maluti FET,” Pule told FARPost.

“It’s a bit closer because we used to share the same stadium. Some friends of Lorch from Bloemfontein, we used to chill together.

“I think it started from there, we used to talk and I think we became a bit closer. So, I think playing at Pirates, it was that thing of I know Lorch and he knows me [too].

“The chemistry was better.”
