Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has seemingly aimed a dig at Kaizer Chiefs after urging other PSL teams to make the title race more exciting and elevate South African football.
Mamelodi Sundowns have been the dominant force in South African football in the last decade, winning the last eight straight PSL titles, but there is a serious challenge for their crown this season from Orlando Pirates.
Pirates and Sundowns have been engaged in a tight battle this term with the two sides currently separated by a point and while Broos is happy that it is not a one-horse race anymore, he is saddened to see other teams fall off.
Is Hugo Broos speaking directly to Kaizer Chiefs?

Among those who should be challenging for the title but not in the race are Kaizer Chiefs, who started the season well but have since fallen off, sitting 17 points behind league leaders Pirates but Broos is urging them and others to pull up their socks.
“You have big teams like Sundowns and Pirates, and now there’s a good battle. It’s good for the players of both teams that I really have to battle for and struggle to be champions,” Broos said as per iDiski Times.
“That makes the level higher, but the rest must follow. It would be good if we had four or five teams competing for the title here in this competition because they would push each other to higher levels. And it should have a direct influence on the national team.”

Broos is not happy that PSL teams just roll over when they face either Pirates or Sundowns, leaving the two teams to compete amongst themselves, and feels the level of the league can go even higher with increased competition which will see players from other teams get chances in the Bafana Bafana squad.
“So let’s hope that in the future, the other teams will show a little more,” added the Belgian tactician. “I’ve said motivation is key because sometimes I feel that when they play against Sundowns or Pirates, they know before they start the game that they’ve lost, and that’s not good.”
“It would be better if they had to struggle more to be champions, and not just against Pirates, but against three or four other teams, which would automatically push the level higher. Let’s hope that can happen in the next year,” Broos further stated.
