Sundowns suffer blow as they release FIFA Club World Cup 26-man squad

Mamelodi Sundowns have suffered a major blow as they released the 26-man squad for the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.

Masandawana will kick off their tournament campaign with an intriguing opening fixture against Ulsan HD on Tuesday, June 17th.

This crucial match will take place at the Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, setting the tone for their performance in the group.

Following this, they will face their biggest test in the group stage, going head-to-head with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, June 21st, at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati.

Their final group stage encounter will see them take on Fluminense on Wednesday, June 25th, at the iconic Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, a match that could prove decisive for their progression in the tournament.

Jody February will be a notable absentee for Sundowns when they depart for the Club World Cup in the United States, as an injury necessitates an upcoming operation, rendering him unavailable for the competition.

This unfortunate setback occurs shortly after Sundowns demonstrated their faith in the 29-year-old shot-stopper by triggering the option in his contract, effectively keeping him at the club until June 2026.

February had a decent run this past season, featuring in seven matches and impressively recording three clean sheets.
