Percy Tau boost for Chiefs? Al Ahly ‘reach agreement’ with Bafana star

Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau has reportedly reached an agreement with Al Ahly over the mutual termination of his contract.

Tau’s future with the Egyptian giants has been up in the air with news that the Cairo Red Devils are looking to offload him in the January transfer window.

However, the best way to part ways has been the stumbling block with Al Ahly offering to pay him half of his wages to terminate his contract but the forward has been keen on a full settlement.

Now, reports claim the two parties have agreed to a settlement with Al Ahly now ready to pay him the $600,000 (R11.2 million) being the value of his contract, which will expire in June, so that he can leave this month to free up space for a new acquisition.

Where should Tau go after Al Ahly?

Tau signed a four-and-a-half-year contract when he joined Al Ahly in January 2021 from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion with the deal worth $1.2 million per year.

He has won 11 trophies, including two Champions League and as many league titles, having scored 30 goals and provided 14 assists, in 125 games across all competitions, but he has fallen out of favour this season with coach Marcel Koller using him sparingly.

Al Ahly are reported to have lined up Brazilian forward Ewerton from Czech side Banik Ostrava to fill the void that will be left by Tau as they look to strengthen the squad with an eye on the expanded FIFA Club World Cup that will take place in June and July in the United States.

Tau has been reported to be a subject of interest from a number of clubs including Zamalek, Kaizer Chiefs and most recently Pitso Mosimane’s Iranian side Esteghlal.
