Percy Tau transfer: Pitso Mosimane reunion on the cards?

Published on by Joel Oliver, updated on

Pitso Mosimane and Percy Tau could be about to reunite yet again following reports that the tactician is weighing up a move for the forward.

Tau’s future at Egyptian giants Al Ahly has been the subject of speculation with news that the Cairo Red Devils are looking to offload him in the January transfer window.

However, the best way to part ways has not been agreed yet with Al Ahly offering to pay him half of his wages to terminate his contract but the forward is keen on a full settlement.

With his future in doubt, a number of clubs have been rumoured to be interested in the winger, including Zamalek and Kaizer Chiefs, and now reports in Egypt claim Mosimane is looking at the possibility of luring him to Iran where he now handles Esteghlal.

Can Pitso convince Tau to move to Iran?

Esteghlal are looking for reinforcements in the midseason transfer window to boost their campaign after Mosimane’s start has had some ups and downs and have already signed Kenyan forward Masoud Juma on a six-month deal.

A deal for Tau could further boost Esteghlal’s attack and reunite him with Mosimane for the second time after the former Al Ahly coach lured him to Egypt during his two-year stint with the Red Devils in January 2021.

Mosimane and Tau know each other very well after the ‘Lion of Judah’ formed part of a fearsome attack for him at Mamelodi Sundowns from 2013-2018, winning two league titles and the CAF Champions League.

Tau has been in Cairo for four years and has 11 trophies, including two Champions League and as many league titles, having scored 30 goals and provided 14 assists, in 125 games across all competitions.
