Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has opened up on his side’s shock defeat to Magesi FC.
The Brazilians were handed a 2-1 defeat by Dikwena tša Meetse in the Carling Knockout Cup final with the Betway Premiership newbies winning their first trophy in the top-flight.
This was their first cup final after getting promotion from the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the end of the last season.
Mngqithi feels the game came out the way they expected it with Clinton Larsen’s side sitting back and looking to catch them with counter-attacks.
He says they had worked hard in dealing crosses and set-pieces, the way they conceded the two goals.
MNGQITHI SAYS THE GAME CAME OUT AS THEY EXPECTED
“I feel the game came out the way we expected it to. We knew they were defending, we knew we had to go block,” said Mngqithi.
“We knew we had to try and probe as much as we can.
“And in the end, we had 20 shots on target, 20 shots at most. But unfortunately, they only had two shots on target and they had no cause.
“And we knew that we had not made too many chances to punish them.
“The only sad thing is the goals that we conceded. Because it's the areas that we worked very hard on that identified.
“The first goal, we knew that Chirambandare is the most important player for them.
“And his crossing precision is very good.”
