The Soweto giants will have to contend with scorching conditions in Monday’s match

Orlando Pirates players have complained of the scorching sun in Spain even as they prepare to face La Liga side Sevilla in their second friendly match on Monday.

Pirates started their pre-season with a 2-2 draw against English Championship side Plymouth on Friday but face a major test from the seven-time Europa League champions.

The Buccaneers are feeling the heat literally with temperatures in Seville reaching 37 degrees on Sunday but they are determined not to allow that deter them.

Pirates gave a good account against Plymouth

“It’s blazing, the last few days have been better but today [Sunday] we are experiencing the weather that we were experiencing the last time we were here. Good luck to the guys that are new in the team. It is a feeling of how it is going to be,” said midfielder Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo.

Pirates gave a good account of themselves against Plymouth when Evidence Makgopa and Olisa Ndah were on target but Sevilla present a different challenge.

It will be the first match in pre-season for the Spanish side who finished 12th in La Liga last season, presenting Jose Riveiro with an opportunity to gauge his players’ levels of preparedness.
