‘They are proving us wrong’ – Chiefs coaches Kaze and Ben Youssef get rare praise

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela says coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef are beginning to change opinion about them.

The two coaches have been in charge since mid-September, when their boss Nasreddine Nabi parted ways with Chiefs, and have had a mixed bag of results, winning four, drawing as many and losing two of the 10 games they have overseen.

However, after an initial struggle, they have now overseen a three-match winning run, with their team scoring eight goals while conceding just two, with Tuesday’s 4-1 demolition of Orbit College one of the best games the Glamour Boys have had in a long time.

Masilela says he was thrilled by how the two coaches managed Tuesday’s game and thinks they have started proving their doubters wrong following the skepticism that greeted their appointment.

What has Masilela said about Kaze and Ben Youssef?

“When you speak about the tempo, the intent you know, they wanted to go and attack that Orbit box and that was the difference,” Masilela said on SoccerBeat.

“First half they kept too many back passes playing with a low tempo but in the second half, they stepped it up and I am sure the coaches said a few words to the boys and maybe the coaches again are proving us wrong and I like that also from the coaches,” he added.

Kaze and Ben Youssef were part of Nabi’s backroom team, the latter joining with him when he arrived at Naturena in July 2024, while the latter linked up with the Tunisian a few months later.

It is not certain why Nabi left and what led to Chiefs’ decision to stick with his men but their good run in their last three matches is giving fans optimism that the struggles of the past could be about to end.
