Wandile Duba: Striker or winger? Kaizer Chiefs coach responds

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze has weighed in on where he thinks young forward Wandile Duba is most effective on the pitch.

Duba scored a brilliant goal on Saturday when he opened the scoring for Amakhosi in their 2-0 win over Magesi FC with Mfundo Vilakazi netting the other.

In that match, Duba operated from the right wing and not at centre-forward where he has been deployed for most of his time at Chiefs. The youngster had an impressive game, leading to questions whether he should be playing out wide.

Kaze admits he likes Duba on the wings as that is where the team can benefit more from his unique skills.

“It’s a very good performance from him today [Saturday] and we want players that challenge for each position,” Kaze as quoted by iDiski Times. “He’s a very important player; he’s a player that has shown his qualities since last season.”

“As well, we need him and sometimes you sleep on what you have done and probably in the moment you don’t do enough to keep improving,” he added.

“But I believe that he’s coming back, the goal that he scored is what we asked for. That’s why we didn’t play him as a striker because we feel that when he comes from a further position, he can get into the box and have more space to finish.

“He’s a player that likes to be fast, he can run and we believe that when he comes from a further position, he could get inside the box and make things happen.”

Duba has been slow off the blocks this season as Saturday’s goal was his first of the campaign and he will be hoping to maintain the run in the remaining games.

The youngster has also had to deal with stiff competition up front as Chiefs have Flavio Silva, Khanyisa Mayo, Ashley Du Preez, Luke Baartman, Etiosa Ighodaro and Glody Lilepo who can also play as the main striker.
