Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is happy with the progress Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch have made in the Caf competitions.
Bucs, and Masandawana are into the quarter-final of the Caf Champions League while Stellies have made it to the same stage in the Caf Confederation Cup. Another Premier Soccer League team, Sekhukhune United, narrowly missed out the last eight.
Broos is delighted that by virtue of the three teams making the latter stage of the competition, he will have options when it comes to selecting players to do the job for the national team in international assignments.
‘I was happy seeing South Africans advance' – Broos

“You know, one of the reasons that we did so well at [2023 Afcon], the team had six or seven players of Sundowns who had experience of the Champions League, so I think it was one of the reasons why we did so well,” he stated.
“Now with Pirates who are doing very well, there’s five or six players of Pirates in the [squad] so that for me, I was happy to see the South African teams qualifying for the next round, it’s international experience and something players who are coming from other teams don’t have when they come to Bafana Bafana.
“I’m very happy that Stellenbosch, Pirates and Sundowns are one round further, before it was only Sundowns, I was happy to see Pirates and Stellies; it’s good for Bafana Bafana,” Broos concluded.
Bafana are set for the resumption of the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers and later on the 2025 Afcon finals in Morocco.
