The Soweto giants and the Red Castle are desperate to have quality players ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Kaizer Chiefs and Rulani Mokwena's Wydad Athletic Club will have to look elsewhere after Young Africans SC refused to sell their talented attacker Clement Mzize.
Amakhosi, under coach Nasreddine Nabi, have been restructuring ahead of the new season after finishing 10th in the 2023/24 Premier Soccer League campaign. They have signed Fiacre Ntwari, Bongani Sam and Rushwin Dortley. Arguably, their best signings so far have been Gaston Sirino and Inacio Miguel thanks to their international experiences.
After finishing sixth in the Botola Pro League, the Red Castle appointed former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Mokwena to help them get on top of Moroccan football again.
Why are Chiefs, and Wydad chasing Mzize?
At just 20, the attacker has established himself as a crucial player in the Yanga SC team. Last season, he scored 10 goals for Wananchi across all competitions.
The Tanzania international has massive experience in the Caf Champions League and Caf Confederation Cup, explaining why the two teams made inquiries. Rumours have it Yanga SC turned down an R8 million offer from an unnamed team, and club's president Hersi Said has explained the reason.
“It’s not just Mzize; we’ve received offers for other players, too, but we can’t just keep selling our talent. We want to be competitive in Africa and to do that, we need to keep our best players,” he told Far Post.
“If we wanted to sell the player, we could have negotiated with any club interested in him. We’ve never had any interest in selling the player. Mzize has signed a new deal. He has a new contract with us.”
