Ademola Lookman has faith in his Atalanta teammates

Ademola Lookman put up a man-of-the-match performance as Atalanta defeated Lecce by a lone goal on Saturday. The Super Eagles player scored the only goal as his team got their fourth win in five games.

It's worth mentioning that Lookman will join the Super Eagles for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, so Atalanta will not be able to call on his services for a few weeks. Prior to Saturday's encounter with Lecce, Atalanta's coach Gian Piero Gasperini voiced his concern due to the departure of his star player: “It worries me, yes, both for the numbers and for the quality of the matches played. It is clear that we are losing an important element in attack, but we have a certain number of players to be able to make up for it.”

However, in his post-match interview, Ademola Lookman stated that he is confident his teammates will do well in his absence.

“We have a good team, with strong players. I will go to the African Cup but my teammates will do an excellent job, I have faith in them. Will I miss Bergamo? Yes, I can't wait to come back here.”

The absence of Ademola Lookman will be a huge blow for Atalanta. He has been arguably the club's best performer this season, with seven goals and three assists in the Serie A this season. Also, Lookman has been in sensational form in December. He was directly involved in four goals across five matches this month, scoring three times with an assist.

Gianluca Scamacca will now be called on to provide the goals for Atalanta in January. He assisted Lookman's winner on Saturday, and has seven direct goal involvements in the Serie A this campaign (five goals and two assists).
