Ademola Lookman transfer: Relief arrives from Bavaria but Atalanta determined to play hardball

Bayern Munich have made a late move for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, setting up a frantic end to the transfer window.

The 27-year-old, who formally requested to leave Atalanta earlier this summer, has yet to find a destination despite heavy links with Inter Milan. Talks with the Nerazzurri collapsed, but Bayern now see him as a solution to their attacking needs.

According to The Athletic, the Bavarians tabled an offer on Sunday, just hours before the window shuts. Vincent Kompany’s side are in search of a versatile forward, someone to relieve Harry Kane or even partner him in attack.

Atalanta unmoved by Bayern’s transfer structure for Ademola Lookman

After missing out on Nick Woltemade, who opted for Newcastle, and Nicolas Jackson, who was held back by Chelsea following Liam Delap’s injury, Bayern shifted their attention to Lookman. Their bid is understood to be a loan with a sizeable fee, plus an option to buy.

The Nigeria international, who struck 21 goals for Atalanta last season, is open to the move and keen to return to the Bundesliga, where he previously turned out for RB Leipzig. Galatasaray and Tottenham have also tested the waters, but Bayern’s push has made it an open race.

Barely an hour after the initial reports, Fabrizio Romano provided clarity: Atalanta will not entertain a loan with an option to buy. The Serie A side remain firm, only a permanent deal or an obligation to purchase will move them from their stance.

That leaves Bayern, Spurs, and the rest with a choice. If Lookman is to get his next big stage, it will take a guarantee, not a gamble.
