AFCON 2024: Super Eagles confirmed line-up vs Ivory Coast

Published on by

Nigeria head coach Jose Peseiro has named a very attacking line-up for his side’s second Group B game of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024) game against Ivory Coast.

The Super Eagles will face the hosts in what many have dubbed as one the biggest games of the tournament, known officially as AFCON 2023.

The injury of Yusuf Alhassan sees the Royal Antwerp midfielder miss out, but Frank Onyeka has maintained his place in the middle of the park.

Samuel Chukwueze replaces Alhassan Yusuf in Super Eagles starting line-up

Onyeka will play in a pivot, with Peseiro drafting Samuel Chukwueze into the starting line-up, the only change from the team that started against Equatorial Guinea last Sunday.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali also retains his position in the post, with Ola Aina, William Troost Ekong, Semi Ajayi and Zaidu Sanusi forming the back four.

Onyeka sits just in front of the defence, while Calvin Bassey appears to have been moved into midfield to play alongside the Brentford man.

Chukwueze and Ademola Lookman have been deployed as wingers, with Alex Iwobi operating as a no.10 behind main striker Victor Osimhen.
