Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare joined Ajax from Wolves on a season-long loan this past summer, and he has taken to life in Amsterdam like a fish to water, firing on all cylinders.
The Nigerian forward has been in red-hot form all season. On Sunday, he added to his tally by scoring the winning goal in a 2–1 victory over Sparta Rotterdam at the Sparta Stadion.
After receiving a pass from Julian Brandt on the edge of the box, he skipped past a defender and drilled a low strike into the bottom-right corner.

That strike took his overall output for de Godenzonen to nine goals and three assists in 14 appearances across all competitions. At this rate, Ajax will almost certainly look to make his move permanent when the loan expires at the end of the campaign.
Historically, Ajax has enjoyed a rich connection with Nigerian talent. Some of Nigeria’s greatest exports — legends such as Finidi George, Nwankwo Kanu, Tijani Babangida, and Sunday Oliseh — have donned the famous red-and-white jersey, winning major silverware along the way.

Two Reasons Tolu Arokodare Can Become Ajax’s Highest-Scoring Nigerian
Tolu Arokodare is currently in the form of his life, consistently delivering in front of goal for Ajax with nine goals in 14 appearances.
Nwankwo Kanu currently holds the record as Ajax’s highest-scoring Nigerian, having netted 27 goals in 75 matches (a ratio of 0.36 goals per game). Behind him sit Tijani Babangida and Finidi George, each with 24 goals.

Arokodare, by contrast, boasts an impressive strike rate of 0.64 goals per game and is playing with immense confidence. With 24 league fixtures remaining, maintaining anywhere near that rate puts him on track to bag at least another 15 Eredivisie goals.
Add in a deep run in the UEFA Conference League — where Ajax look set to advance into the knockout rounds — plus the KNVB Cup, and he could easily feature in another eight to twelve matches.
Should he maintain this trajectory, hitting 30 goals in his debut season is well within reach, which would instantly see him surpass Kanu, Babangida, and Finidi at the top of the chart.
Even if the 25-year-old falls just short of that milestone this term, a permanent stay makes breaking the record virtually inevitable.

Ajax have struggled in recent years to find a ruthless center-forward capable of leading the line and delivering in crucial moments. Arokodare is proving to be that missing piece, making a permanent pursuit likely if Wolves’ reported €20 million asking price holds.
For Arokodare, this is a golden opportunity to cement his legacy in a prominent European league. As long as he stays fit and maintains his scoring touch, history is well within his grasp.
