Nigeria’s Super Eagles will take on Egypt in December as part of preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Nigeria’s clash with the Pharaohs has been agreed following a formal request from Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan, who is keen to gauge his team’s readiness against one of the continent’s leading sides before the finals begin.
The meeting in Cairo, slated for December 14, will be the last competitive outing for both countries prior to the tournament, which will run from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026 across several Moroccan cities.

World Cup playoffs and Egypt friendly to prepare Super Eagles for AFCON
Eric Chelle, appointed in January, has placed emphasis on a front-foot style as he seeks to guide Nigeria back to the pinnacle of African football.
Before their attention fully turns to the Nations Cup in Morocco, the three-time African champions must navigate a crucial World Cup qualifying playoff.

The qualifiers resume next month with the Super Eagles taking on Gabon in the semi-final stage of the African playoffs. Victory would set up a final showdown against either DR Congo or Cameroon for a place in the next round of the qualification campaign.
At the Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria will be aiming for a fourth continental crown. They have been drawn in Group C, where Tunisia, Tanzania and Uganda await in the group stage.
