Lookman’s numbers this season are nothing short of impressive.

In Serie A, he has notched up seven goals and provided four assists. Across all competitions, his contribution rises to nine goals and five assists in just 15 matches.

Such form has fuelled talk of him becoming the next African Footballer of the Year.

Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh is among those who have sung Lookman’s praises.

“Ademola Lookman is a great player,” the former Super Eagles captain said.

“Why I find Lookman to be a great player is because I’m looking at the qualities, the characteristics that are needed to play the position Lookman plays and how he executes them.

“He doesn’t execute them at five out of ten, he doesn’t execute them at six out of ten, he executes most of them at 7.5, 8 out of ten, so that’s why I say he’s a great player.” he added.

Lookman has already made the shortlist for the 2024 African Footballer of the Year.

He is in esteemed company alongside South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi.

His exploits on the international stage have also been noteworthy. Lookman scored three goals and earned a spot in the AFCON Team of the Tournament as Nigeria reached the final.

At the club level, he made history in the Europa League, scoring a stunning hat-trick to lead Atalanta to a 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the final.

With his incredible season, Lookman is poised to follow in the footsteps of compatriot Victor Osimhen, who won the African Footballer of the Year award in 2023.
