Ajax offer Akpom no starter guarantees irrespective of stellar Sittard showing

Ajax manager Francesco Farioli has lauded Chuba Akpom for his significant contributions to the team, noting his impressive performance over the past few months.

The Nigerian forward scored and provided an assist in Ajax's 5-0 victory over Fortuna Sittard at the Johan Cruijff Arena on Wednesday night.

The goal and assist on Wednesday marked the former Middlesbrough man's first contributions of the 2024/25 Eredivisie season, having made three appearances and two starts so far.

Despite the 28-year-old's recent success, the Italian trainer has made it clear that a guaranteed starting position is not assured.

Farioli commends Chuba Akpom but affirms rotation policy

Reflecting on Chuba Akpom's contribution, Farioli stated as per Ajax Show Time, “Akpom has been with us for three months; he has done a great job so far.”

“We have to be grateful for what he has given the team. I think he has worked very well in the last two weeks. He now gets the chance to show himself again.”

Farioli however clarified that, in spite of his showing on Wednesday night, his place as the club's leading man in attack is neither promised nor a forgone conclusion.

“The confidence is one thing, but to always be in the starting lineup is something else. We are going to play a lot of matches, so they will all get their time and be able to show their qualities.”

It will be recalled that, in July, Ajax deemed Akpom surplus to requirements, listing him among seven players set to depart the club.
