Alex Iwobi’s derby goal earns nomination for Premier League award

Alex Iwobi’s stellar campaign continues to attract recognition as his strike against Chelsea has been nominated for Fulham’s Goal of the Month for April.

The Nigerian playmaker opened the scoring at Stamford Bridge on April 20 with a composed left-footed finish from the edge of the box, beating Robert Sánchez after a tidy first touch.

Though Fulham later collapsed to a 2-1 defeat after conceding twice in the closing stages, Iwobi’s goal stood out as a moment of individual brilliance.

The 29-year-old is joined on the Goal of the Month shortlist by another Nigeria-eligible talent, Chibuzo Nwoko. The midfielder, born in England to Nigerian parents, netted a superb effort for Fulham U21s against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League 2 playoffs.

Also nominated are Rodrigo Muniz, Luke Parker, Seth Ridgeon, Emile Smith Rowe and Ryan Sessegnon, who received double nods for goals against Southampton and Liverpool.

Alex Iwobi’s best club season yet

With nine goals and six assists in 35 league appearances, Iwobi is enjoying the most prolific season of his career.

The Hale End Academy graduate has been directly involved in 31% of Fulham’s Premier League goals this term, a remarkable figure that underlines his growing influence under Marco Silva.

His all-round contribution, vision, and work rate have made him a central figure in Fulham’s midfield and final third, and he is increasingly proving to be the team’s creative heartbeat.

Iwobi’s form could see him among the front-runners for Fulham’s Player of the Season award. His consistency, end product and big-game performances make a strong case as the Cottagers close out their campaign.
