Super Eagles and Fulham midfielder Alex Chuka Iwobi stunned many with his progressive passes at the AFCON 2025 tournament in Morocco, Arik Foot reports.
The 29-year-old played over 60 line-breaking passes in the tournament as he helped Nigeria to a bronze medal, the highest of any player in the competition.
While that aspect of his game has largely gone under the radar, a recent stat update has shown that Iwobi tops some of the biggest Premier League stars in the number of chances created from open play since the start of the 2024/2025 season.

Iwobi tops Saka, Odegaard in top EPL chance creators
In a stat update posted by Squawka, Iwobi was amongst the top ten chance creators from open play in the EPL, above big names like Eberechi Eze, Phil Foden, Morgan Gibbs-White and Bukayo Saka.
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah provided 18 assists in the English top-flight last season, so it is little to no surprise that the Egyptian tops the list of chances created (117). While he’s not been able to replicate those numbers this season, his creative ability cannot be denied.

Manchester United’s midfielder engine Bruno Fernandes was a close second behind Mo Salah. The ever-fit Portuguese has created 107 chances from open play since the start of last season.
Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez was a surprise pick for many, but the Argentine’s work on the pitch speaks for itself as he’s created 97 chances, while his teammate follows closely.
Cole Palmer and Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers are tied on 5th with 80 chances created, while Fulham’s Alex Iwobi is just one less (79).

The Super Eagles midfielder is level with Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes but ranks above Arsenal duo, Martin Odegaard (78), and Bukayo Saka (77).
Former Manchester City-linked Nottingham Forest attacker, Morgan Gibbs-White, completes the top ten, creating 75 chances from open play.
The English attacking midfielder was close to sealing a move to Etihad during the summer transfer window, even agreeing to personal terms with Pep Guardiola’s men.
Surprisingly, after his release clause was triggered, Nottingham Forest managed to tie him down to a new contract, putting an end to any transfer speculations.
Alex Iwobi had the best personal output of his career in the English Premier League last season, as he scored nine goals and provided six assists for Marco Silva’s side.
