WATCH: Maduka Okoye’s stunning save in Udinese vs Roma earns rave Serie A review

Published on by

Maduka Okoye produced one of the moments of the Serie A weekend as Udinese edged past Roma in a dramatic 1-0 victory at the Bluenergy Stadium, Afrik-Foot reports.

While Jurgen Ekkelenkamp’s second-half strike proved enough to hand Udinese an unexpected three points against the capital club, much of the post-match conversation centred on Okoye’s brilliance between the posts.

The Nigerian goalkeeper delivered a calm and commanding display, registering three vital saves to secure his fourth clean sheet of the league campaign.

The standout moment arrived late in the second half when Roma pushed hard for an equaliser. Wesley França’s deep cross from the right was met first time by Gianluca Mancini, whose close-range effort looked destined for the net.

But Okoye reacted instantly, throwing himself to his right and stretching out a strong palm to divert the ball away for a corner, a stop that left players and supporters stunned.

The save quickly gained attention across Italy, with Serie A sharing the clip on its official X account, capturing the disbelief inside the stadium as Okoye denied Roma at point-blank range. It is regarded as one of the finest saves across all ten league fixtures played over the weekend.

Okoye’s influence was reflected in the match ratings too. He finished as Udinese’s second-highest performer with a score of 7.30, trailing only goalscorer Ekkelenkamp, who topped the charts with 8.1.

The performance continues a strong run since Okoye returned from a two-month betting-related suspension earlier in the season. Monday’s match marked his 15th league appearance of the campaign, and his form has helped steady Udinese after a shaky start.

The club have now climbed to ninth in the Serie A standings with 32 points from 23 matches, recording nine wins, five draws and nine defeats.

Next up for Okoye and Udinese is a trip to Lecce on Sunday, with their hosts currently sitting 17th in the table.

In total, Okoye has now made 61 Serie A appearances, surpassing the 58 games he played during his time in the Dutch Eredivisie with Sparta Rotterdam.
