Jeff Stelling has urged fans to recognise Alex Iwobi’s quality while he is still active, describing the Fulham midfielder as one of the Premier League’s most underrated performers.
Speaking on the talkSPORT Daily podcast, the ace broadcaster highlighted the Super Eagles star's display against Brentford, where he scored and supplied a brilliant assist in the derby victory.
Stelling said he is impressed by his consistency, rating him as a seven or eight out of ten almost every week. “It amazes me how often Iwobi goes under the radar,” Stelling said on talkSPORT Daily. “Week after week he delivers, but people don’t always recognise his quality. You don’t want to wait until he retires to appreciate him.”

Iwobi’s Premier League record and milestone
The Fulham man, who finished second in the club’s Player of the Season vote in 2024/25, has been a mainstay in the Premier League since making his debut in 2015. Breaking through at Arsenal, Iwobi reached 100 league outings for his boyhood club before leaving in 2019.
After departing the Emirates, he joined Everton, where he added significantly to his tally before returning to London with Fulham. Across those two spells, Iwobi has featured in another 196 Premier League matches, taking his career total to 294.
That figure puts him second among Nigerians in the competition’s history, ahead of Nwankwo Kanu and John Mikel Obi. The record is still held by Shola Ameobi, who managed 298 appearances during his time with Newcastle United.

The Super Eagles midfielder also holds the distinction of being the Nigerian with the most assists in Premier League history. His tally of 40 surpasses the previous mark of 29 set by Arsenal great Nwankwo Kanu.
Last season was Iwobi’s most productive in front of goal, with nine strikes and six assists. He has already started the current campaign strongly, contributing three goal involvements in just five games.
