KRC Genk striker Tolu Arokodare has expressed his deep desire to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria on the international stage.

Arokodare scored his seventh goal of the season in just 11 games last Saturday, contributing to Genk's thrilling 3-2 victory over Sint-Truiden in the Limburg derby.

Despite his impressive form for the Belgian club, the 23-year-old has frequently been overlooked for recent national team call-ups.

With an eye on future selections, Arokodare recognises the competitive nature of the national team landscape and is determined to demonstrate his worth through standout performances for Genk.

Arokodare on his national team aspirations: ‘I must keep scoring'

Speaking to De Standaard, as reported by Sports Witness, Arokodare acknowledged the fierce competition for national team spots and stressed the importance of maintaining consistent performance.

“For the national team, I know that I have to play in a major competition in the long term,” he said.

“If a Nigerian striker scores three times in the Premier League or the Bundesliga, I know that I have to score at least eight times to have a chance of being called up.

“It would be great to wear the shirt of my country. If the national coach does not call me up, I still have a club to focus on.”

The Nigerian forward joined Genk in a €5 million transfer from Amiens SC in January 2023 and has made an immediate impact, scoring 24 goals and providing five assists in 73 appearances to date.

Arokodare has recently been linked with a move to English Premier League club Fulham.
