Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala remains optimistic about her team's prospects at the ongoing 2024 Olympics despite the setback of two consecutive group stage losses.

Randy Waldrum's side has yet to secure a point in their first two group matches, suffering defeats to Brazil and Spain, and have proven wasteful in front of goal so far in the competition.

Despite being on the verge of elimination, Nigeria still holds a sliver of hope. To advance to the knockout stages as one of the best third-placed teams, the Super Falcons must secure a convincing victory against Japan on Wednesday.

Asisat Oshoala emphasises clinical finishing for Super Falcons vs Japan

In the aftermath of Nigeria's defeat to Spain, Asisat Oshoala spoke to Totori News, stating: “All I can say is that I'm proud of the team performance, I think we played good. We played against the world champions and we had our chances, we had opportunities to score against Spain.

“The same thing happened to us in the first game. We were not clinical and we just need to be clinical upfront and if we start scoring goals we can compete with any team in the world.

“We just have to go all out against Japan. We have to go all out and give our everything and make the best of it because we still have the opportunity to qualify. Hope is not lost.”

Reflecting on the outcome of the other group match between Brazil and Japan, Oshoala added, “To be honest, I wanted them to draw in the game, it keeps the goal open for us, and as fate will have it, they won and now we have to go all out and shift another motivation for us.”
