Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman will be looking to be on the winning side when his Atletico Madrid side host Barcelona at the Wanda Metrpolitano Stadium on Sunday, in the biggest La Liga clash of the weekend.
Lookman has scored once in 610 minutes this season, from 1.7 expected goals across 11 appearances. He has endured a laboured start to the campaign so far and might have to start from the bench.
Barcelona lead on 30 points, two clear of the Rojiblancos on 28, and a home win would send Diego Simeone’s men top on 31 before the November international break.

Form and Context for Atlético Madrid vs Barcelona
Barcelona have scored 46 league goals in 11 games, more than double the tally of their hosts, and only Athletic Club Bilbao have posted a bigger total at this stage, with 49 in 1930-31.
On the road the Catalans have won all five league matches, scoring at least three each time for a combined 22.
The unbeaten run is long gone, though, with a 4-2 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain on October 20 and a 1-2 home loss to Real Madrid five days later interrupting the rhythm.

Hansi Flick’s side responded with a 6-1 win over Alavés on October 31 and a 3-0 Champions League victory against Aston Villa on November 3.
The Rojiblancos have won their last seven league games, including 2-1 against Real Madrid on September 20 and 2-0 at Levante on October 31.
At the Metropolitano they have taken four wins and a draw from five, scoring 11 and letting in three, and their total of eight goals against in 11 league matches is the lowest in the division.
Across competitions the picture is less tidy, with a 2-0 home defeat against Bayern Munich on November 3 following a 1-1 draw at Stuttgart on October 20.
Real Madrid, third on 27 points, visit Valencia on Saturday, November 7 and can draw level with the leaders with a win, so the result at the Metropolitano could reshape the top three.

Atlético Madrid vs Barcelona Head-to-Head
Barcelona hold the all-time edge across 231 meetings, with 106 wins to 72 for Atlético Madrid and 53 draws.
The recent run is far tighter, with the Colchoneros winning both knockout ties in 2026, 4-3 on aggregate in the Copa del Rey semi-final and 3-2 in the last eight of the Champions League.
In the league, Barcelona won the lone meeting at the Metropolitano 2-1 on April 4 and have won their last four visits there.
Team News and Predicted XI: Where Lookman Fits
Cristian Romero is the only confirmed absentee for Atlético Madrid, which leaves Marc Pubill and Dávid Hancko as the centre-back pair and returns Robin Le Normand to the bench.
Koke is back from a muscle injury and appears to have the edge over Morten Hjulmand, who is available again after his Champions League suspension, for a midfield place beside Pablo Barrios. Johnny Cardoso also rejoins the squad after a thigh injury.

Kang-in Lee is expected to partner Julián Álvarez, leaving off-form Lookman, Alexander Sørloth and Jonathan David competing for minutes off the bench.
Álvarez, whom the Catalans courted all summer before the Rojiblancos refused to negotiate, has one league goal from 1.9 expected goals, yet he scored against Stuttgart and Deportivo in late October after seven games without finding the net.
Rodri is out with a minor right hamstring injury, so Marc Bernal is set to partner Pedri, with Frenkie de Jong available but not yet at full sharpness.
Dani Olmo, Xavi Espart, Roony Bardghji and Jules Koundé are also out, while Eric García and Andreas Christensen return and are expected on the bench.
| Atlético Madrid | Barcelona |
| Romero: out (muscle injury) Barrios: doubt, expected to start |
Rodri: out (minor right hamstring injury) Olmo: out (adductor) Espart: out (ankle) Bardghji: out (knee) Koundé: out (left ankle) |
Star Player Comparison
Baena leads the Atlético Madrid scoring charts, but Raphinha has outscored him by 10 and his expected-goals figure is more than six times as large.

The Managers
Simeone, the Argentine who has led the Rojiblancos for almost 15 years, has 344 La Liga victories from 565 matches, level with Luis Aragonés, and one more would make him the manager with the most wins in the competition’s history.
Flick has coached Barcelona since May 2024, after spells with Bayern Munich and Germany, and has won seven of his 12 games against Simeone, drawn two and lost three, across all competitions.
Tactical Preview
/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.afrik-foot.com%2Fen-ng%2F2026%2F10%2Fimago1083251964h.jpg)
Flick is expected to use a 4-2-3-1, with Bernal and Pedri as the double pivot behind López, Yamal and Gordon on the flanks, and Raphinha leading the line.
Simeone is likely to answer with a 4-4-2 in which Barrios and Koke close the middle, pushing the Catalans wide, where Gordon faces Llorente and Yamal takes on Grimaldo, a left-back with four league goals.
The hosts have netted 10 of their 11 home league strikes after half time, while nine of the visitors’ 22 away goals came before the break, which makes the first 45 minutes the key window.
The hosts have also shown a more patient style this season, scoring regularly after long build-up spells.
Barcelona’s patched right side, with Fariñas deputising for Koundé, is where the home forwards are most likely to look for space.
The Naija Slip
Four reasoned views follow, each priced from the market and each capable of being wrong.
Atlético Madrid vs Barcelona Score Prediction
| 🔮 Atlético Madrid 1 – 2 Barcelona |
| Barcelona’s +34 goal difference against +14 for the hosts marks them as the sharper side, but only three conceded at home in five league games makes a narrow margin likelier than a rout. Likely scorers: Raphinha and Yamal for the visitors, Baena for the hosts. |
