Super Eagles target makes Championship TotS roster as Lampard bags manager award

Millwall winger Femi Azeez’s impressive season has been rewarded with a place in the Championship Team of the Season, Afrik-Foot reports.

The 24-year-old has been one of the most exciting wide players in the division, finishing the campaign with eight goals and eight assists in 32 appearances. Those numbers reveal that the former Reading star has been both a scorer and a creator, capable of changing games in different ways.

His performances have caught the attention of Nigeria’s national team selectors. Azeez is now firmly on the radar of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle ahead of the Unity Cup, with reports suggesting the Malian is keeping a close eye on the attacker’s progress. His pace, direct running and ability to deliver in key moments make him an attractive option for the Super Eagles, especially as they look to refresh their attacking options.

Azeez could be an important option for Chelle on the right flank, where Fulham winger Samuel Chukwueze has dominated over the past few years.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to participate at the invitational Unity Cup alongside India, Zimbabwe and Jamaica.

Chelle has already vowed to prosecute the tournament mostly with Nigeria-eligible stars abroad, opening the doors for Azeez to make an impact.

Championship: Lampard leads Onyeka’s Coventry back to the EPL

Frank Lampard has also been named Championship Manager of the Season after guiding Coventry City to promotion to the Premier League.

It is a remarkable achievement, especially considering he only took charge in November 2024.

Under his leadership, Coventry developed into one of the most effective teams in the EFL Championship. They combined attacking flair with defensive discipline, finishing the season with 25 wins and the highest number of goals scored. Promotion was secured with three games to spare, a sign of just how dominant they became in the final stretch.

It is another important step in Lampard’s managerial career. Having previously taken Derby County to a play-off final, this success shows growth and maturity in his approach. He has built a side that plays with energy, structure and belief, qualities that will be tested when they step up to the Premier League.

A key part of Coventry’s success has been the arrival of Frank Onyeka. The Nigerian midfielder joined on loan from Brentford in January 2026 and quickly became central to the team.

‘The Tank’ brought strength, discipline and balance to the midfield. His role was not always about goals or assists, but about protecting the defence and allowing attacking players to flourish. With him in the side, Coventry found stability, and results followed. They won eight of their first nine matches after his arrival, keeping six clean sheets in that run.

Onyeka also delivered in big moments. His stunning goal in a crucial win over Derby County showed he could contribute at both ends of the pitch. Just as important was his leadership and experience, which lifted the overall level of the team.

Lampard himself highlighted Onyeka as a vital addition, describing him as the missing piece in the promotion push.

Now, with Coventry heading to the Premier League, the midfielder’s loan move has been made permanent.
