Boniface’s goal drought continues as Leverkusen edge Frankfurt

Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface endured his fourth consecutive game without a goal as Bayer Leverkusen cruised to a commanding 4-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt at the Deutsche Bank Park on Saturday.

Boniface's compatriot, Nathan Tella, opened the scoring for the visitors in the 26th minute, setting the tone for a dominant display.

Nordi Mukiele and Patrik Schick extended Leverkusen’s lead to 3-0 by the 33rd minute, but Hugo Ekitike responded for the hosts four minutes later, reducing the deficit before the break.

After the interval, Aleix Garcia sealed the victory for Xabi Alonso’s side in the 62nd minute, securing all three points in emphatic fashion.

Despite his side's impressive attacking display, the Nigerian forward was unable to find the back of the net, extending his recent dry spell in front of goal. The 24-year-old last found the back of the net in Die Werkself's 3-2 victory over Köln in the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals on February 5.

Saturday’s victory ensures Leverkusen maintain their grip on second place in the standings, though they remain eight points adrift of league leaders Bayern Munich.

Boniface's brief impact: A tactical snapshot

Coming on as a substitute for Nathan Tella in the 77th minute, Boniface made a measured contribution in his limited time on the pitch.

In 12 touches, he completed six of nine passes—a 67% success rate—and registered one blocked shot.

While he managed to win one of two aerial duels, he also lost possession five times. Boniface has featured 19 times for the reigning German champions, making 13 starts.
