Chidera Ejuke’s Sevilla future in doubt as club preps for summer battle with La Liga’s tight-neck rules

Super Eagles attacker Chidera Ejuke could leave Sevilla this summer, as the club looks to raise funds, Afrik-Foot reports.

Ejuke joined Los Nervionenses two years ago, but his time at the club has been topsy-turvy.

There have been periods when he has been a regular, and there have been times when he has had to watch from the bench. Injuries have also dealt him a bad hand, as his momentum has been occasionally disrupted.

This season, he has featured in 22 La Liga games, most of which have been from the bench. His attacking output hasn’t been good enough either.

Ejuke is known to be a gifted dribbler, but he has just one goal and one assist to his name in the league this season.

This year, Sevilla has had two coaches—Matias Almeyda and Luis Garcia—but Ejuke has failed to pin down a regular starting spot under either of them.

Meanwhile, Los Nervionenses are battling relegation and risk dropping to the Segunda División.

They are currently 16th in the table, two points above the relegation zone. With seven games remaining, a poor run could see them relegated for the first time in 26 years.

But whatever happens—whether they stay up or not—Sevilla is bracing for a big summer window.

A major reason for Sevilla’s struggles in La Liga this season is their squad quality. La Liga’s stringent financial rules have left many clubs in a tight situation, and Los Nervionenses have been heavily affected.

Last summer, they had to sell some of their best players, like Dodi Lukebakio, Stanis Idumbo, and Loïc Badé. Those were sales they needed to make to be able to meet the league’s financial demands.

This summer, Sevilla is expected to follow the same path. Things are even tighter because of their poor league finish. As such, they will have to make further sales.

One of the players expected to leave the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán is Nigeria’s Chidera Ejuke, and this is according to Vamos Sevilla.

The former CSKA Moscow man is seen as a dispensable figure at the club, so they will be willing to part ways with him in the summer. The 28-year-old could fetch Los Nervionenses up to €4 million if sold.

However, it remains to be seen if Ejuke will find suitors able to match his fee. Last summer, he was linked with several clubs in Belgium. Perhaps they might return for a transfer this summer.
