German club VfB Stuttgart are reportedly set to offer unsettled Ajax forward Chuba Akpom a chance to redeem himself and reignite his career.

Die Roten have long been admirers of the Super Eagles hopeful and were strongly linked with him in January. However, the move ultimately collapsed due to Ajax's decision to retain Akpom for the second half of the season.

In 31 appearances for Ajax across the Eredivisie and UEFA Europa League, he registered 14 goals and three assists. Despite these contributions, some sections of the club’s fanbase have questioned whether he is truly deserving of wearing the club’s iconic red and white colours.

Late last month, Ajax deemed Akpom surplus to requirements, listing him among seven players set to depart the club.

According to German publication Bild, the Arsenal academy graduate is on a shortlist of strikers the Dutch giants are considering to replace Serhou Guirassy, who has since joined Borussia Dortmund.

The report also indicates that Ajax are willing to sell Chuba Akpom for the right offer. The club have been pursuing Wout Weghorst for some time, but his arrival is contingent upon either the Nigerian or Brian Brobbey leaving.

This is also linked to Ajax's need to reduce their salary budget, and the departure of a high earner like Akpom would significantly assist in this effort.

The 28-year-old, who joined Ajax in August 2023, arrived with a strong reputation following his crucial role in Middlesbrough's run to the Championship playoffs during the 2022/2023 season.

The Nigerian's remarkable achievement of 28 goals in the English second tier earned him prestigious accolades, including the PFA Championship Player of the Year, EFL Championship Player of the Season, and the Golden Boot.
