AC Milan's Portuguese winger, Rafael Leao, has emphasised the threat posed by Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface ahead of Milan's UEFA Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena on Tuesday night.
Leao, a key player in Paolo Fonseca's squad, believes his Milan side has a strong chance of overcoming their hosts, provided they can effectively neutralise the threat posed by the Nigerian forward.
Leao stressed the importance of respecting Boniface’s skills while acknowledging the overall quality of Leverkusen’s squad, setting the stage for a highly competitive matchup.
Leao: ‘We respect Boniface’s ability'
Speaking at Monday's pre-match press conference, Leao emphasised the importance of being cautious against the formidable Boniface.
“Yeah, I know him; he’s teammates in the Nigerian national team with Chukwueze,” the Portugal international said.
“He was talking about him this week, and he’s very technical and fast, and we know we need to watch out for him.
“We need to watch out for the entire team because the center backs, the full backs—Frimpong and Grimaldo—and the entire team play very well, and it’ll be a difficult game. But of course, Boniface, we respect his ability, but I think we’re prepared to face him.”
The Nigeria striker has been in excellent form for Die Werkself this season, netting three goals and contributing one assist in five Bundesliga matches for the reigning German champions.
