Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze could be set for an important role under Ruben Amorim at AC Milan ahead of the 2026-27 season, Afrik-Foot reports.
Chukwueze’s future had been uncertain since the end of last season after he returned to the Italian club following the end of his loan spell at Premier League side Fulham.
The 27-year-old joined the English club during the 2025/26 season and, despite showing impressive form, eventually left after Fulham decided against taking up the option to make his move permanent.
Since returning to AC Milan, Chukwueze has been linked with a move to several clubs, including a possible return to La Liga. He was also linked with Turkish side Trabzonspor, although that interest has since cooled.

However, with just a few days to go before the start of the 2026/27 Serie A season, the Nigerian could now be set for a key role under Amorim at AC Milan.
Three traits that could make Chukwueze thrive at AC Milan
1. Chukwueze’s versatility
One of Chukwueze’s biggest strengths is his versatility. Although he primarily plays as a right winger, the Super Eagles star can also operate on the left wing and in midfield.
More importantly, Amorim has already tested him in a wingback role during pre-season, giving Chukwueze a new position to adapt to under the Portuguese coach.
The Nigerian has impressed during pre-season and has shown that he can adapt to the demands of the position. While the wingback role is relatively new to him, some of his natural qualities could make him well suited to Amorim’s preferred system.

Chukwueze’s ability to play in different positions also gives Amorim more options when selecting his team. Rather than being restricted to a traditional winger role, he could be used in a position that allows him to contribute both defensively and offensively.
If he continues to adapt well, the new role could give Chukwueze an opportunity to become more important to the AC Milan team next season.
2. Work rate and physicality
Chukwueze’s work rate and physicality could also play an important role in helping him succeed as a wingback.
The Nigerian has the strength and physical ability needed to handle the demands of the position, particularly when he is required to track back, challenge opponents and cover large areas of the pitch.

His time in the Premier League with Fulham last season also gave him valuable experience playing in a highly physical league. That experience could help him deal with the physical demands of Amorim’s system at AC Milan.
Chukwueze has shown during pre-season that he is willing to take on those responsibilities. If he can maintain that level of commitment, his work rate could help him settle into the role and give Amorim another reliable option on the flank.
His physicality could also allow him to compete effectively in one-on-one situations, while his strength can help him hold off opponents and make runs from deep.
3. Nigerian star’s pace
Another major strength that could help Chukwueze thrive in the wingback role is his remarkable pace.
The Super Eagles forward is one of the fastest players in the AC Milan squad, and his speed could be particularly useful in Amorim’s system.
As a wingback, Chukwueze would be expected to move quickly between attack and defence. His pace would allow him to push forward rapidly when AC Milan are in possession while also giving him the ability to recover quickly when the team loses the ball.
That could be a major advantage for him because he can cover a lot of ground in a short period of time.
His speed can also make him a dangerous attacking outlet. When he receives the ball in space, he can drive forward, take on defenders and create opportunities for his teammates.

At the same time, his ability to recover at full speed could help him deal with the defensive side of the role.
With AC Milan set to begin their Serie A campaign against Torino on August 23, Chukwueze will be hoping to make a strong start to the season and prove that he can thrive under Amorim in his new role.
