The final FIFA World Rankings for 2024 have been revealed, with Nigeria’s Super Eagles maintaining their position as 44th in the world and 5th in Africa—exactly where they stood in the November rankings.
In November, the Super Eagles experienced the steepest drop of any nation in the FIFA rankings, sliding eight places to 44th in the world, down from their previous position of 36th.
The Super Eagles' decline began with a frustrating 1-1 draw away to Benin and was further exacerbated by a stunning 2-1 loss to Rwanda at home in Uyo earlier this month, marking the conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
While the defeat to Rwanda did not endanger Nigeria's qualification for the tournament, its ripple effects are evident in their drop in the global rankings.
The team’s standing plummeted as they lost 21.06 ranking points, bringing their total to 1482.23—significantly lower than the 1503.29 they held in the previous update, underscoring the impact of their recent performances.
